We’re learning, training and implementing ICD-10! Are you?
Adaptation to ICD-10 will impact not only coding, but all areas of the revenue cycle. As of now, there are around 68,000 codes existing in ICD-10 compared to 13,000 in ICD-9.
These new codes allow for more information to be expressed in a code because of major enhancement in the specificity; with ICD-10 fewer codes will need to be reported to completely explain a condition because there will be codes combining diagnoses and symptoms.
ICD-10 deadline is October 1, 2014 – sounds like it’s far away but there is a lot of new information to put into consideration.
